In the car driving home last night from picking up a few boxes of Starbucks coffee someone blessed me with I began reflecting on all I am thankful for. I reflected on each little blessing God’s poured down upon me this week. The list was long, but first on my thankful list was coffee, as once again I was taken back at God’s goodness. In every moment over the last year that I ran out of coffee and was too broke to get anymore, God always provided. Time and time again. Story after story I could share of free coffee that I’ve received. As silly as this sounds, I believe God blesses me with coffee to remind me of His care and love for even my silly things in life. I have blogged about Starbucks provisons before, and yet again this week I saw it. It’s these moments that remind me to stop looking for the big answers to prayers or big provisions, but to step back and thank God for each tiny intimate detail he provides and cares for in our life. For every free box of coffee I receive it proves God intimately knows me.
Today I am thankful for the simple things.
shoes to cover my feet, fresh groceries in my fridge, a fireplace that keeps me warm, a pen to write, fresh water to drink, and warm coffee to enjoy.
Matthew 6:30-33 “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
Today, what simple pleasures are you thankful for?
