Steps of Expectancy.

This week has been filled with steps, tiny, almost crawling, but steps nonetheless.

Some steps toward the known, yet others toward the unknown.

The obstacle of fear has greeted me along the way in the journey attempting to suck my soul of faith.

I have spent the last couple weeks reading/studying Joshua’s story where God prepares him to lead his people into the promised land. In Chapter 1 you have God pumping Joshua up with a pep talk….

“I will never leave you nor forsake you

Be strong and courageous

Be strong and VERY courageous

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. do not be terrified; do not be discourage for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. “

By Chapter 3 God is leading Joshua to take his people through the Jordan River.

Joshua gives the people he is leading a pep talk, “for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”

Expectancy.

Joshua was filled with courage from the Lord that led to a heart of expectancy in the steps God was leading…steps of faith into the flowing, flood-stage river.

A raging, powerful river was in their midst

yet they approached the banks with expectancy.

My heart, just as Joshua comes to the rivers edge expectant.

Expectant to see God do amazing things among me.

But to see these amazing things I must take a step into that river

My toes inching towards the river banks, the rushing river of fear before my eyes.

God whispers, be strong, take the step.

Trust me.

Trust me with this river you are going to walk through Katie

Trust me to do amazing things among you.

Take that first step.

Even if that step is in the raging river that instills fear, put your feet in and trust me.

“The water in the river had risen over its banks, as it often does in springtime. But as soon as the feet of the priests touched the water, the river stopped flowing, and the water started piling up at the town of Adam near Zarethan. No water flowed toward the Dead Sea, and the priests stood in the middle of the dry riverbed near Jericho while everyone else crossed over.”

The Israelites, weary from wandering in the desert, from years spent in the wilderness that bred doubt, came to the rivers edge to see God do amazing things in their midst. That raging river was a defining moment of faith, did they believe, even through their weariness that victory was ahead?

To take a step of faith, to set their feet into that river was the moment they were putting the days in wilderness behind and a new season was among them, the promised land of Canaan.

Walking through the dry river bed with the  river wall piled up they witnessed a miracle, they experienced Him who was and is always faithful.

Faithful in the wilderness, faithful in the promised land.

The land of Canaan was theirs, yet they still had to take steps of faith to possess it.

‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you—”

Steps of faith.

Steps of faith toward Him who is faithful.

Steps of faith to see the Lord do great wonders.

My feet are entering the river, expectant.

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it. I will make a pathway through the wilderness. (Is 43:19)
