Celebrating 13 | Learning to love in the change

Snuggled next to one of my twins, I’m sitting here savoring my coffee this morning trying to figure out how my weekend getaway went so fast.

Yesterday we celebrated 13 years of marriage and we spent the weekend doing something fun. I think in the thick of raising young babes its easy to slip into shoulder-to-shoulder living, you forget to simply enjoy your spouse as a friend and have fun.

It’s been over 2 years since just the 2 us have been able to have a weekend away together and it was just what we needed.

Over the 15 years we’ve been together we’ve changed… a lot. The change is good, healthy and normal… but it’s also been the one aspect of marriage we’ve had to grow in.

Loving each other through our growth. We aren’t the same youthful 17-18 babes when we first met, our careers, passions, beliefs and personalities have morphed significantly over the years that we had to love one another in the sometimes messy change of who we are becoming.

Thank you Jesus for grace, mercy and truth. Marriage is beautiful and a gift, I’m thankful to share life with my best friend, through it all.

“Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.”
