The Great Commission

The morning after resurrection Sunday…I sat quietly, reflecting on culture, where we find ourselves as a nation in light of a resurrected- death-conquering Christ.

After Jesus comes back alive and meets the disciples, he gives them this commission:

“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

I recently read a study by Barna that 82% of church-goers have either never heard of or don’t know what the Great Commission is!

What does it even mean if we have faith but actions don’t accompany it? In James it says, even the demons believe there is a God.

We need a Church that’s living beyond a held belief.

Faith. What does it mean to be a faith-filled follower? I’ve been studying this word and it’s implications lately and Faith is Action. Risk. Obedience. Faith influences are affections and then our actions.

I think the Church is hiding from this great commission in some ways, either we don’t know or, or we forgot we know the risen Christ who should change everything for us! And we must step out in action.

But I was really thinking about this post-Christian culture we find ourselves in and that we should be carrying the HOPE with salt and light with a fierceness— not hiding in our homes-praying this passes over and then we will come out and obey God with action.

It takes faith to walk in the great commission.

How do we walk in greater faith and experience new life?

When we said Yes to Jesus, we counted the Cost, which was taking up our crosses and denying self.

There needs to be a death- the burying of dreams of ideal life— a true dying to self.
But the seeds of death to self preservation, death to ideals, American dreams, personal achievements and comfort are the seeds to LIFE- Eternal life!

I think of the revivals I hear out of the prayers of His Church, hearts begging God for a Harvest. …and I believe in my heart that it’s the seeds of death that will usher in souls to meet the Living God! It won’t be easy, there will be a cost- but the sacrifice will bring more JOY and true life than we could ever know in earthly ways.

As I read in a book recently, fear chooses self! Fear is self-reliance and self-dependence.
BUT FAITH chooses Gods side!

Whatever it cost, faith chooses Gods way.

“So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.”
‭‭James‬ ‭2:24‬ ‭NLT‬‬
